When i was a kid i use to gather with my friends and prepare our caroling instruments mostly composed of pair of stones, tambourine made of bottle tops and the most common one, our small hands. Those days were probably the most memorable part of my childhood even if i have to sneak around my parents because they won’t allow me to roam around at night.
Right now as I am writing this blog, a group of guys, around 20yrs old and up came to carol and i said “sorry caroling is for kids, i only allow kids to sing Christmas carols here”. Sounds inappropriate eh? But that’s how i believe it. I remembered before when i was still living with my parents there came a number of adults caroling, and when my mother told me to give them 5 pesos they retorted saying “nge singko lang?”(”Five pesos only?”) and so i said “yes that’s what we can afford” and a moment later a pair of kids followed them a girl and a boy i think 5 to 7 years of age and gave them 2 pesos after singing one song and they were so happy that they were so loud to sing “Thank you, thank you ang mabait ninyo, thank you”. So now you understand why i don’t like adults doing the caroling, not unless they’ll do it for free.
Christmas probably is the most enjoying season of the year being with your family and friends singing songs from your rented videoke machine waiting for 12am of December 25th. Although i don’t really go to church frequently – maybe because i don’t believe in religion, but i do believe in GOD more than anyone else- , i still believe that it’s worth celebrating Christmas(not XMas!) more than the way we celebrate our birthday or even the new year.
