PHP Session suddenly dies

May 11th, 2009 Posted in PHP | No Comments »

Just a couple of days ago i was puzzled by what i thought was a PHP bug. I ran into a problem where when i open a page of the site i developed, the session that handles user login details dies. This usually happens when you fail to start the session, or maybe your session timeout was set too short or you unnoticely unregistered the session somewhere before opening the page. I checked the PHP configuration file, and timeout was long enough for i have planned. Session was started on every page, including the page where it dies and i only have the intentional killing of the session on user logout. It took me a couple of days to try and solve the issue, where i reached the point that i have to backup session by a cookie, which i thought was a last option. It didn’t satisfy me, because using cookie will cause security issues at some point. So i took my chances and asked the help of my boss to look for all LAMP(Linux Apache MySQL PHP) related error logs.

As i scanned through the log files, i found this “Request exceeded the limit of 10 internal redirects due to probable configuration error. Use ‘LimitInternalRecursion’ to increase the limit if necessary. Use ‘LogLevel debug’ to get a backtrace.“. I googled for possible answers with regards to this error and later i found out that it has something to do with the rewrite module of apache where it keeps pointing to an unreachable destination/location maybe to a non-existing image, css file, or some media within the server. So then i checked my html and they were pointing all to existing locations, until i debugged my css file and found that i was referencing to an image that i FORGOT TO UPLOAD. Yes, an image caused this very pesky problem that in some point i thought of giving up on working with the project.

It took me over 3 days to figure out the problem(with the help of my boss of course).  It’s crazy to think how a very simple mistake could mess up everything. It’s very stressful to encounter problems which almost no one has encountered, but to be part of the few who have, i think it’s an honor to maybe help somebody who might encounter one in the future.

What the hell happened to the Phoenix Suns?#$!

It’s amazing how sensitive feelings can hurt a professional basketball team in a short period of time. From having its eyes on the championship ring, to seeding 9th in the tough Western conference. First was Shawn Marion, being disturbed by trade speculations, requested to be traded and started hurting the team in the locker room and so he was traded for the “big cactus”, and just like that, the run and gun style deteriorated. Second, after the boring team(Spurs) eliminated them in the first round of 2008 playoffs, Steve Kerr talked to coach D’Antoni about playing defense and giving the ball to Amare in the post. That triggered the coach to start looking elsewhere to coach instead of listening to his boss who won several championship rings with the Bulls.

The biggest mistake made by Mr. Kerr when D’Antoni left was to hire a coach who preaches defense and yank at players when they make a mistake (Terry Porter). I always wanted Alvin Gentry to take over Mike D’Antoni since he assisted the latter for the past 4 successful seasons where the team made it twice in the conference finals. The team slowed down and was just a couple of games above .500 before the all-star break!!

There’s a bunch of What If’s this season which includes “What if Amare Stoudemire didn’t injured his eye?” or the best probably is “What if they traded Amare for Tyrus Thomas”. I still wanted Amare to be traded, this guy only cares for himself and will always throw his teamates out of the bus when the team is underachieving.

Players they should keep: I still believe they can still make a final push next season with the right players on the team who cares for nothing else but winning. Keep Steve Nash, Grant Hill, Goran Dragic, Jared Dudly, Louis Amundson, and Leandro Barbosa. We need Steve’s floor leadership he can still average 15 points and 10 assists per game and he was our two time MVP. Grant Hill is a curse to any team, he has not made it into the 2nd round of the playoffs! But this guy’s work ethics is just tremendous for an old guy. He wants to win and will take the minimum offer, so keep this guy. Goran Dragic has showed brilliance in the past couple of games, he’s the future point guard so let him learn along with Nash. Jared Dudly is a competitor, an aggressive player on defense, not too athletic but knows the game very well. Leandro Barbosa, if this team wants to continue running then this guy has to be in the mix. LB has shown consistency this year, and that’s very amazing for a person who just lost his mother prior to the start of the season. Last but of course not the least, Amundson. This guy is a workhorse and is tough, he still needs to make his freethrows though.

Let go of this guys: Matt Barnes, Stromile Swift, Alando Tucker. Matt Barnes’ inconsistency has been hurting this team. He always cry for missed layup’s believing that he’s always fouled. Let this guy go some other team will be interested on him. Stromile Swift has the skills, but not about sure on the ethics of this guy. When he got to Phoenix in the middle of the season from the Nets, he was out of shape, i want to give this guy a chance but for now i still believe he must go somewhere else. Alando Tucker has been a dissapointment, he’s got his moments but another team deserves this guy, we’re loaded in the guard position and he doesn’t shoot the ball that well and with consistency.

Find a way to trade this players: Shaquille O’neal, Amare Stoudemire, Robin Lopez, Jason Richardson. Shaq has been awesome this season passing several players in the scoring title of all time. But this guy cannot run and i bet he will slower next season which will hurt the run and gun. He is also a problem on the pick and roll defense. This guy should play for the Cavs, they need him. Amare Stoudemire is a beast, on offense and is questionable on defense. The suns should have traded him for Tyrus Thomas when the Bulls was willing to, they could have been in the 5th or 6th place waiting for the playoffs to start. Robin Lopez is a bust. This guy cannot play defense for players who penetrates, he’s good at making sure he fouls them. But yea, he’s just a rookie, i’ll give that to him. Jason Richardson, I am not really sure about this guy but i feel like he doesn’t have the right ingredients to be part of this team, see how lebron james blocked his 360 dunk? Jeez…

This offseason will be crucial, with the economy this bad, the Banker owner of this team will probably do everything to keep attandance at full the next season (which might mean Amare will stay, he draws fans). If ever they trade Nash, i hope he goes to New York, it’d be cool to cheer for that team next.
